Spellbinding Stamps Holiday Celebration Challenge
Hi All –
Christmas is about a week away. Hope everyone is finished with their holiday shopping , wrapping and baking so you can all participate in this weeks challenge at Spellbinding Stamps by Nikki Burnette.
We’re doing a Holiday / Winter Celebration Challenge this week so I know you won’t want to miss out on this. We all could use one more Holiday card to send out to someone special right?
For my card today, I colored Belle using my Copic Markers. I’ll list all the colors I used below. I chose to color her in a bit of retro colors using a teal and red combo for her outfit. I really like the look of retro Holiday colors and it’s a nice change from the traditional red and green.
I added a bit of clear Wink of Stella to the lace trim on her outfit to give it a touch of sparkle.
I fussy cut her out trying to leave no white lines around her at all as much as possible.
I opted not to color the candy cane that Belle is on in the image so I that is why I cut so closely around the image when I was cutting her out. I decided that I wanted her to be crawling across an actual Candy Cane which would give the card a lot of dimension and visual interest.
Once she was fussy cut, I started adding layers of dimensional foam to the back of the image so that it would be flush with my candy cane. I ended up with 5 layers of dimensional foam on the back of the image.
Next, I cut several layers of various Holiday papers using some Die-Namics dies and adhered the layers together and put them onto the white card base.
It was a bit of a challenge getting the actual candy cane to stick to my paper. I tried a couple of different craft adhesives that didn’t work and finally ended up using some Super Glue. It’s probably not archival safe or anything like that, but that candy cane won’t be going anywhere anytime soon, LOL!
Once the glue was dry I went ahead and added my colored Belle image and positioned her so her knee and hand were resting on the candy cane.
I have a stash of Holiday stamps sitting on the corner of my desk and I found the perfect sentiment stamp for this card. It reads, Sending you Candy Cane Wishes and Mistletoe Kisses”. This stamp is from Sugar Pea Designs and I think it goes perfectly with this card. I love finding the perfect sentiment to go with my cards.
I stamped my sentiment with some Versamark and added some gold Zing Embossing powder and heat embossed it and then used some Distress Ink in Festive Berries to add a bit of red color to the sentiment to make it match the rest of the card colors a bit better. I did use a little X die from Die-Namics to just add a bit of interest to the sentiment and then rounded the edges as well.
For my final touch I added a little wooden snowflake with some clear Wink of Stella on it.
I love having a vision of a card design and having it come together beautifully.
