A Spot of Happiness

Hello crafty friends!

I’m back with another card featuring an adorable new set from Dare 2B Artzy called Spots of Happiness. This sweet set is filled with the cutest little ladybugs, and today I’m sharing a simple card featuring a bit of coloring, die cutting, and lots of pretty shimmer!

I started by stamping the ladybug sitting on the leaf and the butterfly, then colored both images with my Copic markers. Once they were completely colored, I cut them out using the coordinating Spots of Happiness Dies.

For my background, I thought the Leaf Background Die would be the perfect backdrop for these little critters. I die cut the leaf background from light green cardstock. Then, using the stitched rectangle die included with the Leaf Background, I cut a piece of darker green cardstock. I also die cut the stitched leaf from the same dark green cardstock.

To add a little more depth and dimension, I ink blended around the edges of the light green die-cut background using Rustic Wilderness Distress Ink. I also added a touch of the same dark green ink around the edges of the die-cut leaf.

Next, I wanted to create a focal area for my sentiment. Following one of the thicker lines in the Leaf Background Die, I trimmed away one corner of the background. This created the perfect little spot for my sentiment.

Of course, I couldn’t resist adding some shimmer! I used Mowed Lawn and Frayed Burlap Distress Spritz to add a few splatters to the background, then set it aside to dry. I also added a little of the same color to the die-cut leaf.

Once the first layer was dry, I spritzed the Leaf Background with Twisted Citron and Antique Linen Distress Spritz. The Distress Spritz adds such a beautiful shimmer, and the larger splatters almost give the background a fun bokeh effect.

I adhered the leaf background to the dark green cardstock with liquid glue. Then I added the dark green leaf on top using dimensional foam. The colored ladybug was also popped up with dimensional foam and placed on the leaf. I added the butterfly to the background with a bit more foam adhesive to give the card even more dimension.

For the sentiment, I stamped and heat embossed “Life Is a Spot of Happiness.” Since the sentiment is made up of three separate stamps, I was able to use the coordinating strip dies to cut out “Life Is” and “A Spot of,” along with the coordinating die for the word “Happiness.”

I popped up all of the sentiment pieces with dimensional foam and added them to the lower-left corner of the card, right on top of the dark green cardstock. The entire base was added to a top folding horizontal card base made from 120 lb cardstock.

To finish everything off, I added a few white gel pen details to the ladybug’s spots and scattered some iridescent gems around the background and on the butterfly’s wings.

And that finishes up today’s card featuring the adorable Spots of Happiness stamp and die set! I just love how the layers, shimmer, and little pops of sparkle bring this sweet scene to life.

As always, I’ll have all of the products I used listed and linked below for your convenience.

Thank you so much for stopping by!
