Teapots & Tiny Tales: A Christmas Train Station Scene
Welcome back!
Today I’m sharing a fun Christmas card featuring Dare 2B Artzy’s brand-new Teapots & Tiny Tales Collection. This adorable new release is sure to steal your heart, with the sweetest woodland critters tucked into their tiny houses made from teapots and teacups. There are also some traditional Christmas images, including Santa and a reindeer.
The Teapots & Tiny Tales Collection includes four brand-new stamp sets with coordinating dies. The coordinating patterned papers feature images from the stamp sets, and most of the images can be cut out using the coordinating dies, making it quick and easy to create beautiful cards.
There are seven new 12″ x 12″ papers in this release, and they’re also available as a bundle.
In addition to the new stamps, dies, and patterned papers, there is also a brand-new Side Step Fun Fold Die.
Santa’s Teapot Express
For my card today, I’m playing with the Santa’s Teapot Express Die. I stamped and colored almost every image in the set, leaving out only the extra package and ornament. I also stamped the adorable bunny from the Woodland Teapot Cottage stamp set and the sweet little mouse from the Cozy Up Teacups stamp set.
I colored all of my stamped images with my Copic markers. I wanted to keep with a traditional Christmas color palette but decided to use some warmer shades for a cozy holiday feel.
Once all of my images were colored, I cut everything out using the coordinating dies.
A Little Wreath Tip
I wanted to share a little tip about the tiny wreath included in the set. The coordinating die cuts out the wreath but doesn’t cut the hole in the center. I wanted to be able to see the patterned paper behind the wreath, so I decided to create the opening myself using a standard hole punch.
I actually thought of this after I had already cut the wreath with the coordinating die. I have one of the multi-sized hole punches, so I added a little temporary adhesive to the back of the wreath and stuck it to a Post-it Note. This allowed me to easily position the wreath and punch the center hole.
Just a little tip in case you’d like to do the same!
Creating the Train Station Scene
Next, I was ready to create my scene. I decided the new Side Step Fun Fold Die would be perfect for creating a fun little train station scene.
I cut the Side Step Fun Fold from heavyweight light blue cardstock and followed the easy-to-understand instructions on the back of the package. The die creates all of the score lines you need to fold the side steps into place. I used my bone folder to make sure all of my fold lines were nice and crisp.
The Side Step Fun Fold Die also includes all of the additional dies you need to decorate your card with your favorite patterned papers.
For my card, I used the Santa’s Teapot Express patterned paper, cutting the paper with the snowflake pattern. For the very back section of the Side Step Fun Fold, I used the top portion of the Cozy Cut-Apart paper featuring the trees and reindeer. That section of the patterned paper happened to work perfectly with the largest back-section die included with the Side Step Fun Fold.
Once all of my patterned papers were cut, I used liquid glue to adhere them to my side step card base.
Adding the Snow
Next, I used the little wavy strip die included with the Side Step Fun Fold to cut some white glitter cardstock to create the snow on the ground of my scene.
I cut three pieces and then simply trimmed them to size by holding the cardstock against the coordinating die for each section. Pretty easy!
I adhered the glittery snow to the card base along the bottom of each section using liquid glue.
Building the Scene
Finally, I could start arranging all of my stamped images onto the side step background and adhering them into place.
Because the side step is graduated in height, you’ll want to be mindful of where you add your adhesive. You only want to put glue or dimensional foam on the portions of the images that will actually touch the base of the card.
I used dimensional foam dots and strips to add my images, giving the scene even more dimension.
I placed the teapot train in the middle section, with Santa Claus standing down in front and waving. My two little woodland critters are off to the side, exchanging an ornament. I just love how these little characters bring the scene to life!
I stamped and heat embossed the “Believe in the Magic” and “Full Steam into the Holidays” sentiments and added them to the card panel.
Finally, I added my little wreath above the “Believe in the Magic” sentiment. I embellished the wreath with some tiny iridescent gems for a little extra dimension and sparkle.
A Little More Sparkle
Of course, no Christmas card of mine would be complete without a little extra sparkle!
I used a Gelly Roll Stardust pen to add some glittery accents to the Christmas lights on the train, the trim on Santa’s coat and belt, and the ornament that the adorable little mouse is holding.
Those little touches add just the right pop of sparkle that I love to include on my Christmas cards!
