December Challenge

Hey Artzy friends! Hard to believe that we’re already into December. I don’t know where this year has gone.

It’s the first Sunday in December and that means  a new challenge over on Dare 2B Artzy.  This month’s challenge is WINTER! I love the monthly challenges with Dare 2B Artzy. I always have fun with them.

Today my Winter themed card features the fun new Cuckoo Clock Stamp and die set. I’ve had this set and wanted to color it up for quite a while. I always think of the Babes in Toyland when I look at this stamp.

I keep it pretty simple today with inking up the cuckoo clock stamp in my MISTI and stamping onto some Neenah Solar White 110lb cardstock. I colored with my Copics using a combo of coral reds and blue greens with some other accent colors. I just love the snow on the clock, it’s so fun to color.

Once colored, I used the coordinating Cuckoo Clock die and die cut the clock an set it aside.

I had a couple of ideas for my background and couldn’t decide on which to use so I combined them a bit. To start, I used a triangle stencil from my stash and grabbed my pink glimmer paste and a small spatula. I taped my stencil to some 110lb cardstock using some purple tape. I spread a thin amount of pink glimmer paste over my stencil and onto my paper. Once I was satisfied with the coverage, I carefully peeled off the purple tape and set my background aside. While waiting for the background to dry, I quickly went and rinsed off my stencil and spatula with some warm water. Glimmer paste dries pretty quickly and you want to make sure to clean your stencils off thoroughly.

With my background dry, I was ready to add in some additional details for my card background.  I used some snowflake dies from my craft stash and cut them from heavy cardstock. Once cut, I used the negative image from the snowflake and placed it over the white space left on my background. I sponged the snowflakes onto my background with a light mint ink. I added the sponged snowflakes into the area where I didn’t have any Glimmer paste.

Once I was done sponging the snowflakes onto my background, I used some Stickles and added little dots of Stickles to the center of the snowflakes and added some extra onto the ends of the snowflakes for a little extra shimmer.

To finish up my card, I die cut a thin teal foil frame to put around it. I added some dimensional foam on the cuckoo clock and placed it into the center of the card front.

I added the Merry Christmas sentiment over the Glimmer Paste using some Versafine ink and some white detail embossing powder. I wasn’t sure I’d be able to emboss over top of the Glimmer paste but I was pleasantly surprised to find that it worked. Yay!

I added my background to another layer of colored cardstock and adhered to a top folding A2 size cardbase.

For a little extra dimension, I added some solid sequins to the card front.

That’s my card today for the Dare 2B Artzy Winter Challenge for the month of December. I hope you’ll have a chance to play around and submit a card for the challenge. The winner will get a free stamp set and ink pad of their choice.  Check out the Dare 2B Artzy blog today for more Winter Challenge inspiration from the Design Team.
