Holly Wreath & Glitz

Hello and happy pre-Turkey day! Is everyone ready for some Thanksgiving feasts with family and friends? Hopefully you’re planning to have a lovely day! I will be spending the day with my hubby and mom having some amazing food! Can’t wait!!

Let’s get into my card for the day. I’m on a Christmas roll trying to get my cards done in advance of the big day so I can get them mailed out.

For today’s card, I decided to play with the Dare 2B Artzy Totally Tracy stamp set called Holly Christmas. I’ve featured the large Poinsettia flower in some other cards this year. It’s such a fun set to experiment and ink up in various ways. This time I reached for the cute Holly Leaves with berries stamp that’s part of the set.

Sometimes my cards start out with me just playing with ink and stamps and this card was no exception. I pulled out some ink cubes and started mixing up inks on the Holly and stamping them. When I found a combo I liked, I decided I wanted to see if I could make a wreath. To do so, I did use a wreath builder stencil and simply inked with a couple of different colors around a square of cardstock until I had a rather full looking wreath.

I didn’t bother to mask out my stamp when changing up colors as I wanted it to be a modern looking wreath. I think the mixing of colors turned out really good. Of course, I opted for non-traditional colors again with some teal and purple.  Did you guess that those are my favorite colors? I reach for them often.  When it came time to stamp the red berries, I didn’t mask them off at all so you’ll see areas where the colors mix a bit, but I really like the look of it.

When I was done stamping, I let the ink dry a bit. There were some bare areas in my wreath so I decided to embellish a bit with some foil accents. To do this, I used a deco foil pen which allowed me to add foil accents. I used the pen to draw in some accent lines on the leaves in green first. I allowed the ink to dry for about 3-5 min and then ran it through my MINC machine with a piece of green foil covering the areas I’d used the foil pen on. Everywhere that I had added the pen to the stamped image had a green foil accent. So fun! I did the same thing using some lavender foil and then of course some red foil for the berries. I added some extra dots of foil using the pen and the lavender foil all around the stamped image. I love the pop that it gives.

Next, I fussy cut the wreath center and outside.  Then I sponged some complimentary ink around the outside of the wreath and popped it up on a metallic blue base. For my sentiment, I stamped the sentiment from the Tis the Season stamp set onto some white cardstock and heat embossed with some silver embossing powder and die cut the strip out and placed in across the wreath with some dimensional foam.

The card base was added to a white 110lb white cardstock base from some Neenah Solar White cardstock.
