Challenged to Step out of my Comfort Zone!
Hi Krafty Fans!
Hope everyone is having a wonderful week and is adjusting to the “Spring Forward” by now. I love the extra light when I get home from work because it helps keeps me energized to go for a walk with my hubby and our dogs in the evenings. Though I will admit, losing that hour takes me a while to adjust to and makes this already-not-a-morning-person even more difficult to get out of bed.
I did get some coloring done for the cards for my father-in-law that I mentioned in my last post. However the cards are not quite finished so I will share those in my next post.
Today I wanted to share a lovely digital freebie that I got for participating in the Simply Betty Challenge this week. She is called the Goblin Queen.
There really weren’t too many rules for this challenge except that you had to choose a light or dark theme. I naturally gravitate towards rich, bold colors so I decided to color her in a dark theme and also in my favorite colors; purple (which looks very blue in this picture – sorry) and teal.
This was my first time ever tackling wings. I’ve never colored wings before and had no idea what they should look like. I just grabbed my Copic markers and dove right in. I’m pretty excited at how well she turned out (even the wings). Now I think I’ll feel a little more confident about coloring wings in the future and will most definitely be breaking out some of my fairy stamps that I’ve been hoarding. LOL!
I used some of the paper scraps that I’d had left over from the card that I made my hubby for his birthday because I felt that it really went well with my dark theme.
The sentiment is also from Simply Betty and was included as part of the digital freebie. I printed it on some Neenah Solar White 80lb cardstock and used the Spellbinders Labels 40 Decorative Elements die to cut out the sentiment.
I added a small amount of Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Black Soot to the edges of the die cut sentiment and the layers on the card.
Lastly I added some teal green I-rock gems on a couple of places on the card and some clear Wink of Stella to give her wings some sparkle.
Really happy with the way this card turned out. Keeping my fingers crossed so that I might win this challenge as the new line of Geisha digi stamps are up for grabs. Betty has been sharing sneak peeks of the new stamps all week in preparation for her weekend release party. You can check out Simply Betty’s Stamps here. You’ll find a lot of fun images on her site.
Tomorrow will be a day away from stamping, coloring and learning for me. Here’s what I’m working on through the weekend:
1. Finalizing father-in-law’s Birthday and Get Well
2. Playing with some water coloring with Pelican Water Color set and my new Akashiya Sai Watercolor brush pens
3. Coloring up an image for a birthday coming up in April
4. Working on an anniversary card for my parents who’s anniversary is also in April
5. Working a little on my Copic Skin & Hair class over at Kit & Clowder
Hope everyone has a warm, wonderful, spring-like weekend filled with lots of Krafty stuff.
