Paws & Petals Hello Friend Card

Hello and welcome!

I’m back today with another card for Dare 2B Artzy! This project features a simple yet fun Z-Fold card showcasing the adorable new Paws & Petals stamp set and coordinating dies.

If you’re an animal lover like I am, you’re going to fall in love with this sweet stamp set. It was the April Club Stamp of the Month and includes an adorable puppy, a cute kitten, a wheelbarrow overflowing with flowers, and a small flower patch. There are also six sentiments, with coordinating dies for three of them, plus a small banner die that’s perfect for your greetings.

It was hard to choose which image to feature, but I couldn’t resist the adorable puppy holding a bouquet of flowers!

I stamped the puppy along with the wheelbarrow of flowers and colored both images using a combination of Sketch Marker Brush Pro markers and the new Crayola Alcohol Markers. Once my coloring was complete, I used the coordinating dies to cut out the images.

Creating the Card Base

For today’s project, I chose one of my favorite quick and easy fun folds—a Z-Fold card.

I started with a piece of 110 lb. cardstock measuring 8½” x 5½”. Using my scoring board, I scored the cardstock at 4¼” along the long edge and folded it in half. Then I scored the front panel again at 2⅛” and folded that smaller section back toward the folded edge, creating the Z-Fold design.

Adding Patterned Paper

Next, I cut two pieces of the Little Wonders plaid patterned paper to 5⅜” x 1⅞” and adhered them to the front panels. For the front flap, I used the pattern featuring the decorative daisy border to add a little extra charm.

For the inside panel, I cut a piece of the Sweet as Honey leaf-patterned paper to 5⅜” x 4⅛”, leaving a narrow white border around the edges. I adhered it with liquid glue.

Building the Front Scene

To create the focal point, I used the arched dies included in the He Is Risen stamp and die set from Dare 2B Artzy (available through Scrapbook.com). I’m not sure if this particular arch die is included in the version sold directly through the Dare 2B Artzy website.

I die cut the larger arch from blue cardstock and the smaller stitched arch from white cardstock.

To add a little interest, I stamped the small flower patch from the Paws & Petals set along the bottom of the white arch using a light gray ink. Then I adhered the colored puppy with dimensional foam adhesive so he stands in front of the flowers.

For the greeting, I stamped and heat embossed the “Hello” and “Friend” sentiments, die cut them with the coordinating dies, and attached them above the puppy using foam adhesive.

Decorating the Inside

For the inside of the card, I die cut another large white arch. Near the bottom, I lightly ink blended a soft brown ink to create a ground area. Originally I planned to place only the wheelbarrow on the panel, but it looked unfinished against the plain white background.

To add texture, I used several shades of brown along with a little black to create small speckles that mimic dirt and tiny rocks. I even extended some of the speckling onto the wheelbarrow for a more natural look before adhering it with liquid glue.

Perfectly Aligning the Panels

To make sure the inside arch lined up perfectly with the front arch, I added a small amount of repositionable adhesive to the back of the front arch. I aligned the inside arch behind it and pressed the two together temporarily.

With the panels aligned, I applied liquid glue to the back of the inside arch, carefully closed the card, and pressed everything into place. This simple trick ensures both arches line up perfectly. Once the glue was dry, I removed the temporary adhesive residue with an eraser.

To finish the inside, I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment “Friends Make Life Bloom” and adhered it just above the wheelbarrow.

Finishing Touches

For a little sparkle, I added tiny yellow faceted gems to the centers of each daisy along the front patterned paper. I also scattered a few blue faceted gems around the sentiment on the front arch.

That completes today’s sweet Z-Fold card featuring the adorable Paws &Petals stamp and die set! I hope this project inspires you to create a handmade card for a special friend. The hardest part will be deciding whether to use the puppy or the kitten—they’re both absolutely adorable!

I’ve linked all of the products I used below for your convenience.
