The new releases are here!!!
Stop the presses! The Dare 2B Artzy new releases are here and we’re having an Instagram HOP to celebrate all of the amazing new products!
I have a confession to make! I shared a sneak peek of my project on my blog for the Instagram HOP this morning. A little photo of Yancy the Yeti. My card was live over on Instagram this morning. If you missed the HOP, you can check it out over on Instagram starting with @Dare2BArtzy
Funny thing about my card, I apparently got so excited about getting to play with the Yancy the Yeti stamp that I completely ignored the fact that I was actually assigned to use a product from the Scandinavian Songbirds stamp set. YEP, LOL! I realized my mistake this morning AFTER I’d posted my project on Instagram. I think I had birds on the brain because I have a project coming up on Monday featuring the Joyful Robin stamp set and I just figured I’ve done my birds card, I want to play with the Yeti.
The upside to all of this is today I have not one but two cards to share! Whoo-hoo! It’s like a buy one, get one free deal on my blog today, LOL!
I’ll start with the project I should have posted this morning. A fun little card featuring the Scandinavian Songbirds stamp set.
For this card, I stamped my songbird onto some 140lb cold press watercolor paper using Dare 2B Artzy Totally Black ink. I stamped a couple of times using my MISTI to make sure I had a good impression. I heat set the ink to make sure it was dry and then I restamped over the same image using embossing ink. I stamped it a couple of times again and then sprinked on some clear embossing powder.
Once the embossing was cooled, I colored the little bird using some Soho Watercolors and a water brush. I kept my color palett to the blue and purple colors with just a touch of yellow for a little pop. The Soho pallet has some metallic colors which are great for mixing in with the other vibrant colors to give them a bit of sparkle as I did with the purple and some of the blues for the bird. These water colors are so bright and pretty, I really love the vibrant colors.
When I was finished watercoloring I used my heat gun to make sure all of the water color was dry on my image.
Next, I used my Schpirerr Farben colored pencil to retouch the tiny flowers on the birds tail because they were pretty small the the watercolor didn’t take in that area very well. I added just a touch of purple over those flowers and a little white around part of the head.
Using the coordinating die, I cut the bird out and set it aside.
I cut a piece of the new Songbirds Paper using my Slim Mini Wavy Layers die. and set it aside. I also cut the decorative strip from the Deck the Halls paper used the same Slim Mini Wavy Layers to cut the strip so that it would line up perfectly with the other Mini Wavy Slimline background piece. I held the strip in place when I cut it with some removable tape. That made it easy for me to flip the strip up and add the Score Tape to the back of it so that I could adhere it to the background.
I cut the little chain-link strip from the Slimline Honeycomb Set using some iridescent silver cardstock. Using a bit of liquid glue I added it to the bottom of the decorative strip on my background. I like how it really does look like a chain link.
To create my sentiment, I had a piece of paper that was a scrap from another card project that I had done a lot of ink blending on. The scrap paper that I used had all kinds of tapped off ink from my blending brush. It kind of created a unique bokeh background. I cut that scrap piece of paper using the both the mini For You word die and mini Thanks word die because I wasn’t sure which I would use for the card today.
I wanted to give my die cut word some sparkle and shine. I used a Nuvo Aqua Shimmer Pen and a Moondust Jelly Roll pen on the word, making sure it had plenty of shimmer on the die cut. Next, using an embossing ink pad; I took the pad directly to my die cut thanks word. Using a piece of scrap paper to keep from getting sticky embossing ink on my work surface, I smooshed the ink pad directly onto my die cut word and then sprinkled on some clear embossing powder. Using my reverse tweezers, I held the word and heat set it until it was melted. I did this step 3 times until I had a nice shine on the word Thanks but could still see the shimmer pen from below. This is a great way to add dimension, sparkle and shine to your words.
I popped the Thanks die cut up on a piece of white cardstock cut from the little scalloped rectangle that’s included in the Pop Up Feature Die set.
I added everything to a dark blue stitched rectangle cut from the Slim Mini Wavy Layers set with some dimensional foam.
The entire card panel was added to a Mini Slimline card base. To finish off the card, I added some small purple crystals to the center on the square-ish pattern cardstock.
Now for my second card which was really my first card, LOL! I stamped the Yancy the Yeti, the igloo and two sets of the mountains onto some 110lb cardstock. For something different, I colored all my images using my Spectrum Noir Tri-Blend Markers and die cut them using the coordinating dies. I haven’t used my Triblend markers much and wanted a bit of a challenge so I decided to branch out with my coloring. I really kept the coloring simple using only 3 colors; purple, blue-green and a hint of grey colors for all of the images.
I cut a piece of the snowflakes background from the new Deck the Halls paper using the stitched rectangle from the Slim Mini Wavy Layers die set and added it to a piece of shimmery lavender cardstock I had in my stash.
Next, I used the Curved Slimline Border dies and cut two pieces of white cardstock to create some snowy hillsides. I stamped the sentiment, Yeti or Not on the front layer of the hills. I added these to my patterned snowflake background using a bit of Score-tape for the background and dimensional foam for the snowdrift in the foreground.
I tucked in and adhered the mountains and the igloo in the background with some liquid glue and dimensional foam.
I had originally planned to color the snowdrifts in a shade of purple to depict the snow but decided I didn’t like that. Instead I added some Bearly Art Glue and some Ranger Distress Glitter which created the perfectly sparkly snow for my hills, mountain peaks and igloo. It would have been easy to fill in the entire snowbank, but I opted to just have some wavy lines of snow coming down to create some drifting snow. The Distress Glitter gives the perfect dimension to the card plus who can resist the sparkle, it’s so pretty!
Once the Distress Glitter was totally dry, I added Yancy the Yeti to my card front with some dimensional foam. He looks so cute in his little scarf!
For a bit of bling, I added some sparkly adhesive dots to some of the centers of the snowflakes on my patterned paper. They were actually the inspiration for the color on my card and the purple mountains were my husband’s idea (for purple mountain’s majesty).
On the inside of my card, I stamped the sentiment, Here Comes Winter using the Dare 2B Artzy Wild Orchid ink and some Blue Sky ink. I created a sort of ombre sentiment on the inside to coordinate with the colors on the front of my card.
Whew, that wraps up my crazy whirlwind of cards for today. I have links to all of the products I used for today’s card down below. I had planned to have a video up of my Yancy card tomorrow, but creating a 2nd card today kind of delayed that. I will have a couple of videos up on my YouTube channel in the next week for both of these cards.
