Dare 2B Artzy October Challenge
Hi everyone! Wow, hard to believe we’re already into October and Fall! I feel like Summer just started yesterday and it’s already gone! However, I am happy for fall so what better time to celebrate than now with a new Challenge with Dare 2B Artzy! Our challenge for October is FALL!!
I couldn’t be happier to get to participate in this new challenge since Fall is my favorite season!
To create my card, I started with a 4 x 5 1/4 piece of water-color cardstock.
I stamped the leaves from the Tangle Leave stamp set across the card at various angles with some Versamark and added some gold embossing powder and heat set it.
I decided to use some watercolor inks in a purple, red and mustard yellow. I smooshed them onto my glass crafting mat and added a bit of water to each and mixed.
Next, I added a wash of water to my cardstock to make sure that it was well covered.
Using a water-color brush, I picked up and dropped in color to the cardstock. I let the water move my inks around a bit and then in some areas I dabbed up the excess with a paper towel.
I set it aside and let it dry a little bit before adding more color. It’s always good to let your cardstock dry between layers because watercolors actually dry back a bit so when the color goes on pretty vibrantly, it can fade as it dries and you may want to add another layer of color to boost the color vibrancy.
Once it was dry I did add in just a touch more color in a couple of areas. I liked the flow of color across the card.
I decided that I wanted to add some different leaves to the card front so I used the new Dare 2B Artzy Foxy Greetings which has two fun, solid shaped leaves that would be perfect for adding a bit more pop to my card front.
I stamped the two leaves with some more Versamark and this time I used some copper embossing power and heat set it. I think the copper adds a nice added pop of color on the card.
Since I hadn’t taped down my paper when I used the watercolors, I had some warping of my cardstock. I decided to place it under a couple of books overnight to flatten it a bit before I put it on the finished card panel.
The next day, I cut a strip of gold satin cardstock and stamped my greeting, Autumn Greetings which is also from the Foxy Greetings stamp set. I think the scripty font for these sentiments is so gorgeous! I just love that added elegance. I also heat embossed the sentiment with some copper embossing powder.
I added some dimensional foam to my sentiment and placed it on my cardstock. Finally I popped the whole watercolor panel onto my card base with some dimensional foam.
My card was so fun to make! I always enjoy when I have time to play with watercolors because they are so forgiving and relaxing but the end results are stunning.
