Summer, summer, summer….Challenge!
Everyone I know has been talking about SUMMER. The warm sun, hot days, the golden tan skin, flip-flops, time at the lake, camping and even just laying out under the stars on a warm summer night. Although the calendar doesn’t officially kick off the first day of summer until June 21st, the Dare 2B Artzy Summer Themed Challenge starts TODAY!
We want you to create an amazing SUMMER Themed project using your favorite Dare 2B Artzy stamps. The winner will get a Dare 2B Artzy stamp and ink pad of their choice. Whoo-hoo! That would be a great way to start the summer!
My project today was created with the Dare 2B Artzy Flip Flops stamp set and the little flower from the Happiness Blooms Set.
I used a wooden ornament that was pre-painted with chalkboard paint. I stamped out the little lemon (or orange) slice from the Flip Flop set using some Versamark on the background of the ornament and then sprinkled with some embossing powder. For the oranges I used a champagne color which looks sort of yellow and on the flowers the powder I used was orange, but with the black background it looks a bit more copper. Ultimately I decided that the colors didn’t look too bad so I went with it.
Once the background images were stamped and embossed, I used some Faber-Castell Art Grip Aquarelle water color pencils in bright colors to fill in the negative space and trace around the flowers to make them stand out a bit more. Any colored pencils would work for this project, I just grabbed what was in my pencil holder at the time.
I also added some I-Rock gems to the centers of the flowers and oranges. I like the little added sparkle and interest that the little gems have. What can I say, I like bling!
I stamped the flip-flops and mason jar glass with some Dare 2B Artzy Totally Black ink and colored with my Copics. I wanted the mason jar to appear to have iced tea in it so I drew some faint ice-cube outlines as well. I added some Ranger Glossy Accents to the jar to make the tea look more like liquid. I love the look that this clear medium can give to projects like this. I set the jar aside to dry as it typically it takes overnight for it to completely dry.
For the sentiment I stamped and heat embossed onto some bright yellow card stock with the Hello Sunshine and Happy Summer sentiments. I trimmed them down into strips and cut the ends at an angle.
Once the mason jar was dried, I fussy cut it and my flip-flops out. I added a couple of small glitter dots to my flip flops on the top to give them a bit of bling.
I added some dimensional foam and adhered the images to my background. Then I added dimensional foam to my sentiments and added them to the background as well.
The last piece was adding the orange bow. I’ll admit, I’m totally bow challenged. I had to watch several videos to get the bow, but I finally figured it out and I think the bright orange just makes the whole project pop. It kind of screams summer, but I love it!
I hope that my project has inspired you to kick off your flip-flops and create a fun Summer Themed project! Remember, there’s a prize available.
