There’s no laughing in Yoga!
Hello and happy mid-week to everyone!
I wanted to pop in and share a quick card today that I made for a co-worker.
First let me say that I’m very blessed to have an wonderful day job working in broadcast media for the same company for the past 25 years. I work with an incredibly talented and very diverse group of people, many of whom are like family because we’ve worked together so long.
One such friend and co-worker, Amnia is so bubbly and fun to have around. She brightens everyone’s day. Most days you can hear her singing some crazy 80’s tune and hear her laughter throughout the office.
A few weeks ago she shared her story of her yoga experience at the gym. She’d been trying out different classes and decided to give yoga a shot. Normally Amnia is not a very serious type of person and can make light of most any situation. I’m sure you can imagine how difficult it is to be in a yoga class trying to have a “zen” moment when something funny happens.
At any rate, she shared with me that the class was very quiet and everyone was focused on perfecting their particular pose when a gentlemen in the class passed gas. Of course everyone’s heard the stories about people really relaxing during yoga. Well my friend Amnia experienced it in her class. Of course it was hard to keep herself from busting out laughing at this very relaxed man, but she said no one else even let on that they’d heard anything. Somehow she managed to keep it together and finished the class but we had a great laugh about it the next day.
Ever since she told me this story I’ve been thinking of making a card for her. I finally found a cute stamp from Unity Stamp Company that I thought was perfect. This stamp is from the Fashionista Girls line and is called Serenity. This stamp also comes with 5 different sentiments which can be used for making some great cards. Here’s a close up of the stamp image.
I colored the stamp with my Copics and added a little bit of Wink of Stella to the green trim on her yoga pants and top.
Once I finished coloring her, I cut her out and added some dimensional foam to the back of her. I set her aside and got to work on cutting my backgrounds for my card base.
I wanted to use some bright papers so I chose a purple sheet from my 6 1/2 inch paper packs from Kaiser Kraft. Purple is also one of my favorite colors so I tend to gravitate toward it. This particular paper pack has several designer sheets that are glossy which makes them great for adding an element of shine to your mats for finished cards. I used my Die-namics Blueprints #20 die set to cut the cute square scalloped background. I used the stitched square die from the same set to cut the green paper from some Recollections Card Stock. This particular set comes in a package with several different colors and is called Candy Shop which can be picked up at Michael’s craft stores.
I added the little wave of die cut dots to the top of the green cardstock to add some more texture and interest and to let some more of the purple show through.
For the sentiment I used two of the sentiment stamps from the Serenity set. For the one on the front I stamped it with Stazon ink in Azure and die cut it with the Spellbinders Wonky Rectangles dies and then distressed the edges with some of Azure ink. I popped the sentiment up with some dimensional foam dots and added a little clothes pin to it. Then I positioned my colored image onto the layered green and purple cardstock.
All layers were mounted on to an A2 size cardstock in Solar White from Neenah and I added some purple enamel dots to the card front.
The inside sentiment from the Serenity stamp set reads, “Find your ZEN”.
I really enjoyed putting this card together and giving it to Amnia.
Hope everyone is having their own kind of zen-like day doing something crafty!
