Birthday Fishes to You!

Hello Artzy friends! I am back with another Mermaid card for merMAYzing MAY, LOL! It has been a month of mermaid cards for me and today I have another card featuring several fun Dare 2B Artzy products.

To start I created a background using the new hot foil plate Make Waves. Using a piece of Strathmore Watercolor paper, I added Tonic Studios Shimmer Powders in Blue Blitz, Atlantis Burst, Falling Leaves, and Violet Brocade. I sprinkled a very, very small amount of each onto the watercolor paper and then generously spritzed with water. Once my paper was saturated and full of color, I was able to sprinkle in a bit more Shimmer Powder in certain areas to add more color. When I was happy with the background, I used a heat tool to set it and dry the paper a bit.

When the paper was close to being dry, I ran it through my die cutting machine with the Make Waves foil plate and my embossing mat to create a fun textured waves background.

Next, I pulled out the Ocean Floor Die set and some backgrounds that I had created quite a while ago using alcohol inks. I die cut one of the inked backgrounds that had a rich blue and turquois colors on it. For this background, I had taken my ink dauber with a piece of felt on it and added the alcohol ink to the felt and simply swiped it back and forth across the Yupo paper until it had a nice ombre blend of alcohol ink. I frequently create backgrounds using mixed media techniques and set them aside for later projects. It is a great time saver for crafting.

To create my card base, I cut a piece of 110 lb. cardstock using the Center Step die from Dare 2B Artzy. This creates an A2 card base, and it has all the layers included so it makes creating fun fold cards super easy.

Once I had my card base, I cut each of the coordinating layers of the center step die with my Water colored background embossed with the Make Waves foil plate.

Since, I would not be needing the full background from the Ocean Floor die cut piece, I positioned my Ocean Floor scene in front of the wavy background and figured out what parts of the background I wanted to show. I added liquid glue to them and placed them onto the Make Waves background and cut off all the excess with my trimmer.

I wanted a nice sparkly starfish on the Ocean Floor, so I cut just the bottom of the Ocean Floor scene die again with gold glitter cardstock and inlayed the starfish into my background with liquid glue.

Next, I cut several of the additional dies from the Ocean Floor die set from a piece of rainbow metallic cardstock. These would be my additional ocean plants, fish, and a seashell for the foreground of my scene. I added each element using liquid glue or dimensional foam and one of the plants I die cut a few extra layers and glued them on for additional dimension.

Finally, I stamped and colored one of the mermaids from the Mermazing stamp set. I colored her hair and tail with my Art-n-Fly alcohol markers and then I used my Artify Alcohol Markers in skin tones to color her skin. Once finished, I die cut her with the coordinating die set and added her to my ocean scene with a bit of dimensional foam.

For the sentiment at the bottom, I cut the background panel from my second Make Waves foil plate and then used the coordinating fishtail flag die from the Center Step die to stamp and heat emboss the sentiment Birthday Fishes to You from the Under the Sea Sentiments stamp set! I stamped the sentiment with ink and then heat embossed with clear embossing powder.

For a finishing touch I added some Unicorn Pearls to create the look of bubbles. There is a bubble die set that comes with the Ocean Floor die however, I like the dimension that the two-toned pearls give to the background for this card.

I really love how this fun mermaid birthday card came together. This will be a fun, colorful birthday card to give to someone.

Thanks for stopping by today. I have linked all the products used in this card below for your convenience.
