Feather Art with Dare 2B Artzy
Happy Wednesday Dare 2B Artzy fans! I’m back today sharing my latest Dare 2B Artzy card creation.
For this project I used the feathers from the Dream Catcher set and paired it with the sentiment from the Tangle Jumpstart set.
I started off my project by die cutting a rectangle that was 6 1/8 x 4 1/8. I used a large Post-it sheet to mask off the left and right edges of the rectangle.
I stamped the 3 different sized feather stamps from the Dream Catcher set with Versamark ink and heat embossed them using some Ultra Fine White embossing powder first. Next I went back and filled in the blank areas again with the 3 different feather stamps, this time embossing them with a champagne colored embossing powder. In a few places I did just a partial stamped image and heat embossed that for visual interest but I also tried to balance the white and champagne feathers.
Once my heat embossing in the two colors was done, I grabbed some inks in purple, teal and lime green and used sponge daubers to apply the ink in various places on the masked cardstock. I tried to make sure that I blended the colors and left no white areas.
When I was done inking the masked section, I took a tissue and rubbed the excess ink off the white embossing so it wouldn’t stain it too badly.
Once finished inking, I was able to carefully peel off the Post-it sheet on both sides to reveal a crisp masked section with some bold colors against the white cardstock.
I wanted to add a bit of dimension and shine to the card so I created a circle in MS Word on my computer and filled it with black. I used my laser printer and printed the black circle to a piece of cardstock and used a circle die to cut it out. I touched up a couple of edges with my Minc marker that were creased and resulted in the black ink coming off in the die cutting process. Finally, I was able to foil the die cut piece in my Minc machine.
I stamped, heat embossed and die cut the two large feathers again this time using a Hematite colored embossing powder. Once finished I colored them with my Copic markers using colors that matched my background.
The sentiment I used is from the Tangle Jumpstart set and it just fit into the white space on my card perfectly. I stamped and heat embossed it with some black embossing powder.
Finally, I placed some dimensional foam on the back of my foiled circle and added it to the card front. On top I layered my two die cut and colored feathers. I tied a little twine with some gold thread in it to the ends of the feathers to give it a finishing touch.
I really enjoyed making this card and sharing it with everyone. Hope it inspires you to try some different masking and heat embossing with your favorite Dare 2B Artzy stamps. Check out all of the amazing stamp sets that are available over at Dare 2B Artzy.
Have a safe and wonderful Memorial Day weekend!
