Dare 2B Artzy April Challenge
Hello crafty friends! Welcome back to my blog today! I was just sitting here today thinking that I cannot believe that it’s April already. Weren’t we just celebrating the holidays? I don’t know where the first 3 months of this year have gone? I do know a few things I’m excited for right now: Spring, warmer weather and the new Dare 2B Artzy monthly challenge. This months challenge theme is Kids!
For my challenge card, I’ve made a Birthday card featuring the adorable Cosmic Creatures Stamp and die set.
I started by using a small circular Gelli Plate and playing with some Nuvo Shimmer powders. I sprinkled the powders directly to my Gelli plate and then added a small amount of water from a spray bottle and then stamped the Gelli Plate onto my paper to create a colorful, shimmery circle on my paper. The technique is very forgiving and fun to just play and experiment with for different looks. For my card, I wanted a “planet” looking mix of colors. I ended up using the Blue Blitz, Lilac and a small amount of Cherry Bomb to get a bit of pink in there. I was channeling a colorful alien planet.
Once I was finished with the Nuvo Shimmer powder, I allowed my cardstock to dry and then used the large Double Dot Circle and die cut out the area. Using a second smaller circle die, I cut out another circle from inside the first. This gave me a circle frame with the double dot’s cut into it. I thought that would make an interesting ring around my planet. I liked that so much I decided to cut two additional rings from some plain nesting circles and some gold matte cardstock from my stash.
Next, I stamped and colored the rocket with the cute little aliens in it from the Cosmic Creatures stamp set. I colored the images with my Copic markers. I chose a nice bold green color and some orange and yellow for the rocket’s flames to make it stand out against my background.
To assemble my card, I used a piece of the Cosmic Creatures paper with the stars on it. I cut it down with the largest Rectangle Framelets dies. To darken up the edges, I ink blended on some Black Soot and some Villianious Potion Distress Ink. I really like the dramatic look it gives to my space scene when I darkened up the edges.
I added the Cosmic Creatures paper to a top folding A2 card base made from 110lb paper. Next, I layered on my rings and my planet with some liquid glue. I die cut the moon from some gold matte cardstock and some stars from some white glitter cardstock as well as some holographic cardstock and glued them around the planet. I also used a Gelli Roll stardust pen to add some shimmer to the rocket flames and also around the windows of the rocket.
I layered on my rocket with the alien passengers with some dimensional foam. Next, I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment, “Born to Be Original” with some black embossing powder and added it to a piece of blue holographic cardstock.
Inside of my card I stamped the Happy Birthday sentiment.
That finishes up my card for the Dare 2B Artzy April Challenge. You can participate in the challenge if you head over to the Dare 2B Artzy blog and link up your project(s) all during the month of April. At the end of the month, Dare 2B Artzy will choose a winner and they will receive a gift certificate to the Dare 2B Artzy store online.
Thanks so much for stopping by. I have linked the products I’ve used in today ‘s card below for your convenience.
