Stamptember Has Arrived!
Hello, Hello! How is everyone doing today? Good, I hope!
Well, it’s the month that we crafters dream about all year long, STAMPTEMBER!! Whoo-hoo! In case you don’t know what Stamptember is…WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?! Stamptember is a month long crafty celebration over at Simon Says Stamp’s online blog and store. Simon Says Stamp does a huge release in September as well as several collaborations with other popular craft companies on Limited Edition stamps, dies, stencils…the list goes on and on. Along with all the crafty goodness, there are blog hops and several card makers sharing their inspiration with all of the new releases. As if Stamptember couldn’t get any better, they generally release some awesome holiday themed sets for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. It really is the best of all things crafty!
I was so honored and excited to receive a stamp from Simon Says Stamp that is part of their new Simon branded release for Stamptember. They sent me the beautiful Foxglove stamp set. This set is a 4 x 6 stamp set which features a large Foxglove flower that measures 5 1/4 x 3 inches wide. I believe that the design of this particular image is called Linotype (I could be mistaken on the name). There’s a second smaller foliage stamp also. The set comes with several sentiments such as I hope to see you soon, I miss you and one large sentiment Hope Springs Eternal. There are 9 sentiments total including the name Foxglove and the Latin name for it as well.
For my card today, I decided on a standard slimline card since the Foxglove image was so large. I started by cutting a piece of Neenah Classic Crest 110lb cardstock using the Studio Katia Dotted Slimline 2 die set. I used the die with the scalloped edge.
Once I had that cut, I pulled out my Simon Says Stamp Slimline Mask stencil set and added some Pixie Spray to the mid sized stencil which fit perfectly onto the scalloped panel.
I ink blended on Distress Oxide inks in Blueprint Sketch (Top), Shaded Lilac (middle) and Kitsch Flamingo (bottom). I went over the colors a couple of times until I had a smooth seamless blend from top to bottom. Once finished, I carefully removed he mask to reveal a nice spotlight ink blending on my die cut panel.
Next, I used my Spellbinders Glimmer Machine and hot foiled on the sentiment Wishing you nothing but Blue Skies Today & Always using some Moon Dust foil from Spellbinders. The sentiment was from a previously released Glimmer Kit of the Month.
I did get a touch of over foiling around my sentiment, I’ve heard that sometimes that can happen with ink blended backgrounds. I used a sand eraser and my electric eraser for the detailed areas between the letters, to get rid of the over foiling.
I masked off the edge of the ink blended panel with some Post-it Tape and stamped the large Foxglove flower onto background panel using some Pink Fresh Studio Stargazer ink. The Stargazer ink is a nice dark blue color so it wasn’t too much of a stark contrast as a black ink would have been against my background. I also stamped the sentiment Just for You at the bottom of the panel with the same Stargazer ink.
Finally, I used my Soho Urban Artist Colored Pencils and colored the Foxglove flowers, leaves and the stem to help them pop against my panel. As I was coloring, it was like a light went on when I started to see the definition of the flowers and the edge of the folded over leaf come to life. It was so fun to see the image pop off the background with just some simple coloring. I know that Foxglove flowers come in quite a few colors (and they’re poisonous), probably not quite like these but I think they turned out so pretty.
Using the largest, slimline die from the Studio Katia Dotted Slimline set, I cut some Tonic Studios Marina Mist cardstock. I popped up my ink blended background on top of the iridescent cardstock with some dimensional foam and the whole panel was added the a slimline card base with some additional dimensional foam.
For a bit of bling, I added some Trinity Stamps pink pearls to the card front with some liquid glue.
That is it for my card today as part of Simon Says Stamp’s Stamptember release. I hope you’ve enjoyed my card today.
If you haven’t aready done so, head on over to Simon Says Stamp’s blog or the Online Store and check out all the awesome new releases. Remember to pace yourself though, it’s 30 days of crafty goodness!!! I’ve already added some things to my cart – eeeeek!
