Anything Goes for August Challenge
Hi Everyone! I’m back today with a challenge card for Dare 2B Artzy’s August card challenge. Wait, what?! August?! Where did July go? I’m wondering the same thing?
At any rate, it’ the first Sunday of a new month and we have a new challenge theme over on Dare 2B Artzy’s blog. This month’s theme is Anything Goes!
My card today features the Seas the Day stamp and coordinating die set. I couldn’t get over how cute this set was with the snorkeling manatees and that adorable octopus. I never thought I’d say that about an octopus but you have got to admit it is adorable.
To start my card, I die cut a mini slimline card base with some 110lb cardstock. I used the Sunburst stencil from Dare 2B Artzy and ink blended a sun directly onto my mini slimline card base using some Distress Inks in orange and yellow.
Next, I die cut the clouds from the Slimline Land & Clouds border die from some 110lb cardstock. Using the negative die cut, I ink blended some additional details onto the die cut cloud piece. I really like the look of it as I kept the blending soft and it looks like real clouds. It turned out perfect.
I did the same thing with the scalloped curved Slimline Border die. I cut a couple of pieces of 110lb white cardstock and then used the negative pieces and turned the scalloped edge the opposite direction to create the look of waves. I just ink blended that edge onto the die cut piece of cardstock using several colors of blue Distress Ink. I really like how this turned out. To add a touch of sparkle to the ocean waves, I used a Stardust Jelly Roll pen and followed the curves of the waves drawing on several sparkly lines. It really gives the appearance of the sparkle you get when the sunlight hits the waves on the ocean. It was such a nice touch and really made the background pop.
Next, I stamped and colored one of the snorkeling manatees and the octopus from the Seas the Day stamp set. I colored them with my Croma Flagship Alcohol markers. When I’d finished coloring I used the coordinating die set to cut out my images.
To assemble my background, I added some dimensional foam to my clouds and one of my wave panels and layered them onto my card panel.
I added in my manatee, adhering him directly to the background and popped the octopus up with a bit of dimensional foam.
For the sentiment I stamped and heat embossed the You’re one of a Kind sentiment with some Hero Arts Buttercup embossing powder. I die cut the sentiment using the flag die from the Wavy Slimline Framelets die.
For a finishing touch, I added some 2mm gems to my card front.
I hope you have enjoyed my card for today.
