Bright Colors Challenge

Hello and happy Sunday! Hope everyone is having a great weekend and that your summer is off to a great start!

It’s June and that means that we have a brand new challenge over on Dare 2B Artzy!! This month’s theme is Bright Colors.

I know we’re all excited to shed the winter clothes and get to work on some bright, fun summer cards.

Today my card features the Blossom stamp set which is new for 2018. I love this stamp because it’s so versatile, you can stamp the flower as a single branch or as I have done, stamping around the card base to create a frame for my sentiment.

To create my card, I started with a piece of Canson Water Color paper cut to 6 x 4 ½. I wanted to create a bright, summery background for my card so I thought I’d test out the Tonic Shimmer Powders.  If you’ve ever used the Color Burst Powders, the Tonic version is very similar with one exception. Shimmer powders are made up of several different shades within one bottle. To create a background, you simply tap lightly on the bottle so that little bits of powder come out onto the paper and then you activate the shimmer powders with water. I spritzed my water color cardstock liberally to get the powder mixing and moving. Once the water mixes with the powder you’ll get to see the variation of colors. You can dab up excess water with a dry cloth or paper towel.

For this background, I used the color called Catherine Wheel. An odd name for sure, but it gives this gorgeous orange, pink, yellow background. The bonus is that once the background dries it has a fabulous amount of shimmer to it as well. Once the water mixes with the powder, you’ll want to tilt and move the paper to get coverage over the whole piece. The beauty of these powders is that they can be layered, so if it’s too light, you can always dry it with a heat tool and then go back again and add more powder in places. For my background, I did two layers. It really reminds me of the sun – such a gorgeous color with the orange, pink and yellow and a gold shimmer when it hits the light. Some people have suggested that you set the background with a spray fixative coating to keep the color from rubbing off, but I didn’t experience any of that.

Once I was satisfied with the background, I did set it aside to dry and when it was nearly dry I did set a heavy stamping block on it to help keep it from warping. When it was fully dry a couple of hours later, I was ready to stamp.

I put the background piece into my MISTI and used the Dare 2B Artzy Totally Black ink to stamp the partial blossom image around the outside of the cardstock. There were a couple of gaps because I didn’t get my spacing exactly right, but that’s not a problem because the Blossom stamp set comes with a little single leaf image and I just used that to fill in the gaps that I had. In the end, it worked out perfectly.

With all of my Blossom images stamped, it was time to add the sentiment to the center. I chose the Thanks for Being You. I stamped the sentiment with some Versamark and sprinkled on some Navy embossing powder.

To finish off the card, I had some tiny iridescent sequins that fit perfectly into the centers of the flowers from the Blossom stamp so I adhered several of them around my frame of flowers for a bit more sparkle.

My panel was added to a dark navy cardstock panel so that just a sliver shows and then placed on a top folding white cardstock base.

I really love the bright happy tones of this card.

Hopefully you’re inspired to create a card or project featuring some bright colors and get in on our June Challenge. We’re looking forward to seeing what you create. Be sure to link your projects over on the Dare 2B Artzy blog post for today. One winner will be selected and will win a stamp set and ink pad of your choice.

Thanks for stopping by! I’ve linked to the projects I used in today’s post down below for your convenience.
