Smooched Valentine!

Hi All,

I know Valentines Day is over, but I wanted to pop in quickly to share the card that I made for my hubby for V-Day!

I know I’ve mentioned before that I will randomly play with products and various mediums and then I tuck the results of my play-time away and pull them out later and use them to create cards.

When I first started playing with alcohol Inks, I made a bunch of backgrounds. They were so fun and the colors were so vibrant and beautiful that I got carried away and made 6 different backgrounds on one Friday night. If you’ve played with alcohol inks, you know how addictive they are.

I created one background imparticular that I absolutely loved. Not just because it had my favorite color purple in it, but because the finished result looked like a galaxy. I used eggplant, purple twilight, a very small amount of black, a gold mixative and of course the blending solution. The background just came together with the colors but when I added the gold into the mix it was beautiful.

If you haven’t played with alcohol inks, I highly recommend it. The beauty of the alcohol inks is that there are no mistakes. You can keep adding alcohol or blending solution until you get the results you want and the various mixatives that are available just bump things up with metallic accents. It is so cool – trust me!

When it came time to make Valentines Cards, I created a few and I wanted to make something special for my husband so I pulled out the backgrounds I’d created. I knew exactly what I wanted to do when I saw my purple background…smooch it up.

I purchased these awesome stamps and the matching dies from The Ton Stamps called Smooched. There are 4 different sizes of lip imprints in the stamp set and 8 different fun (and snarky) sentiments and then the coordinating dies cut the 4 different sizes of lip imprints. I thought they were so cool and would make a fun card.

For my valentines card, I put my background into my MISTI and stamped 3 of the different lip imprints onto my background and stamped them with Versamark ink and then added gold embossing powder and heat setting. I did this several times, varying the placement of the lips to create a background.

Once finished, I used my A2 scalloped rectangle from MFT Die-namics and cut down my background so that it would have a pretty little scalloped edge.

Next, I used the fun XOXO die cut which was also from The Ton Stamps mini stamp and coordinating die set and cut it with some white cardstock. Once cut, I was able to ink the entire die cut XOXO with some Versamark ink and sprinkle on some red embossing powder and heat set it. I repeated this step two more times inking over my previous embossing of the XOXO with Versamark and adding more powder each time and heat setting. This gives a bit of dimension to the die cut letters. I like the bold look of the red against the purple and gold background and lips.

I added a little sentiment strip below my XOXO that reads Love You Bunches. The sentiment is from the Simon Says Stamp February Card Kit Stamp called Really Like You. The kit is sold out, however you can still purchase just the stamp set from Simon Says Stamp. I stamped the sentiment onto some black cardstock with Versamark and heat set with some Super  Fine Detail White Embossing Powder from Ranger Ink. I cut the strip down and snipped the end to give it a fishtail flag. I colored the strip with some Spectrum Noir clear sparkle pen to give it a bit of shimmer.

Both of the sentiments were added to the embossed background using some dimensional foam that I cut into some tiny strips to pop them up for a bit more dimension.

My background was added to a background cut from a piece of red cardstock scraps I had and everything was adhered to a top folding A2 size card base made from 110lb Neenah Solar White Cardstock.

Since the background and gold embossed lips made such a bold statement, I didn’t add any other embellishments to it.

On the inside, I used the XOXO stamp set from The Ton and inked it up in a bit of a ombre style using my Distress Oxide inks.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my card today and are inspired to play with some alcohol inks. They are so much fun.

Thanks for stopping by! I’ll be back on Wednesday with another new Dare 2B Artzy card creation. Hope you’ll pop in and check it out.

Hugs,

Tonya
