This month’s challenge is….
BRIGHT COLORS
Here is some inspiration for you:
My project for our first challenge features the awesome Big BLOOM set. This set just evokes images of bright, beautiful springtime flowers. I think right now we could all use more springtime flowers and warmer days am I right?
To create my card, I began with by stamping and heat embossing the flower in the set with some black embossing powder. I colored in the embossed flower with my Copic markers using some of my favorite color combos. I love how the black embossing makes the colors of the flower pop even more. I fussy cut the flower out and added a little die cut flourish to the back of it.
I had a blast creating my background for this card! I used a technique I’d seen used by Gayatri Murali that I loved and really wanted to try. For this technique I used some Liquid Pearls in two different bright colors. I chose a nice teal and a lime green to pair together. To start, squeeze a small amount of the liquid pearls onto your craft mat and then add a few spritzes of water to the side and you mix the water into the liquid pearls. You want to add just enough water so that it’s not too thick but you also don’t want to completely dilute the liquid pearls or you won’t get the same effect. You have to experiment with it a bit. Once mixed to the right consistency I used a wide paintbrush; like a wash brush and painted it onto my background. I used nice long, even strokes so that it wouldn’t create too many streaks. Also keep in mind that you’ll want to use a heavy cardstock for this, mine is 110 lb Neenah. When I finished with one color, I cleaned up my craft mat and mixed the second color with water and finished painting it on. I’ve got to say, I loved the brilliant color and sparkle that you get from this so much; I was ready to buy it in gallon jugs and paint my walls. LOL! I just couldn’t get over how pretty this is. I did take a picture using the flash so you can get an idea of the shimmer that this background has.
I let the background dry completely and then used a Next Level embossing folders called waves to emboss the background. Normally these give really deep impressions, but I didn’t set my embossing machine to the maximum pressure so it gave more of a subtle impression. To finish I die cut the background piece with a little scalloped square die.
For my sentiment I stamped and heat embossed in black the Life is Beautiful and then die cut it with a fishtail flag die. I added some distress inks to my fishtail flag in similar colors. Finally I added two little silver dragonfly brads to the sentiment.
I added my background to a piece of white cardstock base and layered in the flowers and sentiment using some dimensional foam strips.
I absolutely loved, loved making this card and it’s the perfect combination of bright colors for our challenge this week.
We can’t wait to see what you create!! Be sure to check out the amazing cards that Karen and Monica have created for this challenge as well. I know their projects will inspire you.

This is such a beautiful card. Thanks for sharing all the techniques you used. Now I am going to have to go out and get some liquid pearls to play with on my next project.
