A cheerful Birthday Shaker Card

Hello and welcome!
Today I’m back with another card creation for Dare 2B Artzy.

My birthday card stash was in serious need of replenishing, so I thought it would be fun to create a bright and cheerful birthday shaker card using the Slim Mini Birthday Die.

I started by die cutting the Slim Mini Birthday die from the petal side of the Sunkissed Petals paper from the Coastal Getaway collection. Once all of the negative pieces were removed, I cut a piece of acetate to 5 x 2¼ inches so it would fit perfectly behind the die-cut panel.

To create the shaker walls, I used 1/16-inch double-sided foam tape, folding it in half to double the height. After placing the foam tape along all four sides of the die cut Happy Birthday, I removed the backing and added a bit of anti-static powder around the edges. This helps reduce stickiness so the shaker bits don’t cling to the tape—although I’ll admit it didn’t work quite as well as I hoped, and a few sequins still decided to stick around!

After adding the sequins, I sealed the shaker by adhering a piece of purple cardstock to the back, making sure everything was securely enclosed.

For the background, I cut a piece of the brand-new Nectar Kissed paper using the large scalloped layer from the Slim Mini Heart Background Die. I layered teal cardstock over the scalloped polka dots and adhered the shaker piece on top, centered perfectly.

Next, I created the card base using 110 lb cardstock, scoring and cutting it to size before attaching the shaker panel to the front.

For the inside of the card, I cut another piece of polka dot paper from the Nectar Kissed collection. I then die cut the second-largest dotted rectangle from the Slim Mini Wavy Layers Die using 110 lb white cardstock. On this panel, I stamped the sentiment “Sweet Birthday Wishes” from the Simply Sweet Stamp and Die Set using black ink and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder. The sentiment panel was layered onto the patterned paper and adhered inside the card.

To add a fun finishing touch, I created a cupcake using the Create-a-Cupcake Die, cutting it multiple times from different colors of cardstock and patterned paper. I used the same Sunkissed Petals paper from the front of the card to tie everything together. The frosting was cut from off-white cardstock and softly ink blended with a touch of pink.

I used two candles, and for one of them I added the small heart die cut from purple cardstock. Both the candle and heart were glued to the back of the cupcake—I liked the look better that way, but it’s totally a matter of personal preference. They would look just as cute layered on the front. I added a bit of shimmer with a Gelly Roll Stardust pen on the cupcake and for the flame on the candle.

Once everything was dry, I adhered the cupcake to the inside of the card using liquid glue.

That wraps up my fun birthday shaker card for today! I’m sure this bright and cheerful card will bring a smile to someone’s face on their special day.

Thank you so much for stopping by. I’ll have all of the products used in today’s card linked below for your convenience.

Hugs,

Tonya
