Out on a Limb with Hero Arts

Hello friends, and welcome back! Today I’m excited to share another project featuring the Hero Arts I Pick You Collection. For this card, I worked with the Apple Frame Etched Die set and the coordinating Apple Frame Color Layering Stencils, along with the You’re Golden Stamp & Cut set—a perfect pairing for this collection.

I began with the Pearl Strings Bold Print Cling Stamp (an older Hero Arts favorite). Using Unicorn white pigment ink on grey cardstock, I heat set the design, then added a few spritzes of red and gold for shimmer. Once dry, I trimmed the panel down to 4 ¾” x 6″.

Next, I brought the Apple Frame stencil to life on 110lb white cardstock. This 5-layer stencil makes shading effortless—four layers for the apples and leaves, and a final layer for the branches and apple calyx. The result is a beautifully shaded apple frame that feels like you’re gazing up into an apple tree.

After blending, I used the Apple Frame Die to cut out the negative space, leaving behind a delicate vine of apples. I trimmed away the excess cardstock and added a thin black rectangle frame for contrast. I love how parts of the ink-blended apples peek outside the frame, giving the design extra character.

I layered the apple frame over the stamped background with foam adhesive for dimension. For the sentiment, I chose the Mark Twain quote: “Don’t be afraid to go out on a limb. That’s where the fruit is.”

I heat embossed it with clear powder, then stacked several shadow die cuts for added depth before adhering it to the card.

This card highlights the versatility of the Apple Frame set—it’s perfect for thank-you notes, encouragement, or appreciation cards, and it could easily be adapted for fall or harvest themes.
