Set Sail Birthday CArd
Hello! Thanks so much for checking out my blog today!
Today, I have another new card for Dare 2B Artzy. This card features the Set Sail stamp and coordinating die set. It is more of a masculine birthday card which I don’t often get the chance to create. The Set Sail stamp set includes five images and seven sentiments which can be used for birthday’s, anniversaries and encouragement cards with all of the uplifting sentiments.
To start, I used one of my favorite hot foil plates from Dare 2B Artzy called Make Waves. I hot foiled the waves onto some very light blue cardstock with white opaque hot foil from Spellbinders. I thought that the white would look like the white caps that you see on ocean waves.
After the panel was foiled, I ink blended some Distress Inks onto it starting with the darkest at the bottom and blending the colors together until I got to the midway point of the foiled image. Then I flipped it around and did the same process from the other side. I blended darkest to lightest, leaving the light blue from my cardstock as the lightest color. This gives the sea the appearance of depth. Ink blending the panel from both ends gives me two sets of waves to work with and nothing is wasted. I fussy cut along one of the waves just short of the center point. This allows me to layer them together to add some depth.
Next, I stamped and colored the sail boat and the anchor. Coloring the images is very easy as you don’t have to do any detailed coloring. Just be sure to add a bit of color to the white sails on the boat to keep them from looking too flat. I die cut all of the images using the coordinating die set. I love that the dies have the detail to cut out the tiny circle in the top of the anchor which made it perfect for adding a silver bow to it that was made with some thin silver cord that happened to be sitting on my desk.
To create the background to adhere my waves and images on, I cut a piece of the light blue cardstock to be 3 ¾ x 5.
I stamped the nautical compass which has a north and south on it so that it would be slightly off the page using a light blue ink. There is a coordinating die for this as well, but I wanted it to be part of my background.
Using the Clouds and Raindrops Stencil from Dare 2B Artzy, I added some fluffy clouds to the background. I tried to avoid the compass area as I didn’t want the ink I was using on the clouds to overpower it. I ink blended on the clouds in a soft purple ink until I was about half way down the panel. I kept the darkest blending towards toe top of my clouds.
Finally, I was ready to add my hot foiled waves to the background. I adhered the back layer directly to the ink blended clouds panel with some Score-tape. For the 2nd layer, or outer layer; I added some dimensional foam to the back of the cardstock and layered on top of the previous waves.
The sail boat was added to the center of the panel by placing some dimensional foam on back near the top of the sails and then adding some liquid glue to the bottom to adhere it directly to the waves.
I added a bit of liquid glue to the back of the die cut anchor and added it to the bottom right. As an afterthought I added a gem to the center of the bow with a bit of liquid glue.
I stamped and heat embossed the Happy Birthday sentiment and die cut it out with the strip die included in the die set. I added it with a bit of dimensional foam to the front of the card panel to the left of the anchor.
The panel was added to an A2 size piece of cardstock. I added a strip of the striped Seaside Escape paper to the left side of the white cardstock and layered my completed panel on top of it with some dimensional foam.
For some added interest, I used a Gelly Roll Stardust pen to add some sparkle to the Nautical Compass image and also to the boat windows. Finally, I added some Spectrum Noir clear sparkle to the waves on a few of the white areas of the foil only because my blended panels are water reactive.
Since this is intended to be a masculine card, I didn’t add any other embellishments.
Thank you so much for stopping by today! I hope you have enjoyed today’s card.
As always, I will link all of the products I used to create this card below at no cost to you.
Hugs,
Tonya
