Holy Smokes It’s your birthday!
Hello and welcome back my crafty friends.
Today, I thought it would be fun to play with the new BBQ Time stamp and die set. I think this might be the perfect stamp set for summer. It is perfect for Father’s Day, birthdays, summer BBQ invites.
The BBQ Time Stamp set features 12 images of food, condiments and of course a BBQ Grill as well as 8 sentiments that you can mix and match. There is of course a coordinating die set that is sold separately.
To start my card today, I used a piece of Kraft heavy weight cardstock from my stash that measured 8 ½ x 5 1/2 and did some tone on tone stamping with several of the images from the BBQ Time stamp set. Here are my go-to tips for creating a stamped background:
- Use stamping blocks. I use the comfort grip blocks in the smallest size that will fit the stamp I’m using. I find that the grip helps me.
- Stamp your background images largest to smallest. Start with the largest image and stamp all of those first. Then use the next smallest image and so on.
- Try to stamp your images so that they create a visual triangle. That triangle is more appealing to the eye.
- Be sure to rotate your images as you stamp them and stamp some off of the page.
Once I had used all the images from the BBQ time that I could fit, I went back in with the tiny dots or snowfall dots from the Toboggan stamp set and filled in some of the blank spaces. Small accent images are perfect for filling in the gaps on background stamping.
When my background stamping was completed, I cut the cardstock in half to create two 4 ¼ x 5 ½ panels. I used a light pencil line to find the center of each piece of cardstock and then taped in place the angled die from the Wavy Slimline Border die. This cut a nice, angled edge into my cardstock. I cut a second piece of blue heavy weight cardstock using the same angled die. I made it a bit larger so that it would peek out from under my kraft cardstock.
I created a top fold card base from Neenah 110lb Solar White Cardstock and cut a piece of the gingham blue from the Secret Carden paper and cut it down to 4 ¼ and 5 ½ so that it would fit on the front of my card base. On top of that I layered my angle cut kraft with blue trimmed cardstock. I layered it onto my card base with some score tape.
Next, I stamped and colored the BBQ Grill & Lid, steak, and two flames. I colored them using my Altenew Artist Markers. I felt like the grill needed someone to watch over it, so I dug through my Artzy stamp stash to find the perfect critter to go with the BBQ. I ended up using the Moose from the Christmoose stamp set and colored him along with the spatula from the BBQ Time set. I used the coordinating die set to cut out all of the images and add them to the scene with some dimensional foam.
I decided to create some smoke using one of the dies from the Toboggan Fun die set. There’s a swirly die that’s meant to be snow, but I thought it would work perfectly cut from some vellum to create smoke. I ended up die cutting 3 of them and tucked them in behind my BBQ grill. I thought that was a fun touch.
Finally, I stamped my sentiment; “Holy Smokes” and “It’s your Birthday”. I cut them out with the flag dies that came with the BBQ Time die set.
On the inside of the card panel I stamped the sentiment, “Hope your day is flippin awesome”.
As a finishing touch, I added some white Gelli Roll pen to the BBQ Grill and I’ve also added some Stardust Gelly Roll to the inside of the BBQ grill, the flames and also to the spatula.
That wraps up my card for today. I hope you’ve enjoyed this fun BBQ themed Birthday card. I think this card would be perfect for anyone, but it is definitely more of a masculine card.
I will have product links below for all of the products used in today’s card.
Hugs,
Tonya
