Let’s have a Water Adventure
Hello crafty friends and welcome back!
I am so excited today to be able to share a fun new pop-up card I created with the Water Adventure stamp set from Dare 2B Artzy. This stamp features some adorable critters enjoying some outdoor adventures on the water. It has a cute raccoon on a jet ski, a squirrel riding on an inner tube and the most adorable parasailing bunny.
The stamp set also includes a lot of fun sentiments for your outdoor adventure cards like Let’s make a splash and create memories and Wishing you a thrilling day of adventure.
Of course, there is also a coordinating die set sold separately to cut out all of your cute critters in their life vests and it includes dies to cut out ALL of the sentiments in the stamp set!
For my card project today, I knew I wanted to create a scene card but something a bit different. I decided to create a 3d box card, but I needed to create it by hand. Luckily I found a YouTube channel called Karens Kardzz and she has several videos on how to create many different sizes of these from scratch. You can find her YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcC6gYOvkNU&t=3s
My box element measurements are as follows:
4 Qty, 1 x 4 1/4 inch strips – scored on short side at 1/4 inch
2 Qty, 3 3/4 x 5 1/4 inch pieces of white cardstock – no scoring on these. They are the back of the box scene and the back of the box for your sentiment or message.
1 Qty 2 1/2 x 3 3/4 inches – measure 1 inch up from each of the long sides and place a small pencil mark, so you have a mark on both sides of the long edges at 1 inch. Trim diagonally at the pencil marks. Once cut you will have 2 angled cut pieces of cardstock, you will score at ¼ inch on the longest sides.
To decorate my box, I first took one piece of the white cardstock that measured 3 3/4 x 5 ¼ inches and ink blended on some clouds using the Clouds & Raindrops stencil from Dare 2B Artzy and some Broken China Distress Ink. This stencil features cloud edges on 3 sides so you can really create some pretty backgrounds and get lots of variety in your ink blended clouds. They look nice and fluffy.

I stamped out my racoon and my parasailing bunny onto some 110lb Neenah Solor White cardstock with Dare 2B Artzy’s Totally Black ink. It is alcohol ink friendly, so it is my go-to ink for coloring images. For these critters, I used my Sketch Marker Brush Pro alcohol markers and colored my images using lots of bright colors.
I also colored up some additional splashes from the stamp set and a sun from a previously released stamp set called Here Comes the Sun.
Once everything was colored, I used the coordinating dies to cut them out.
Next, I needed to create some ocean waves for my critters to frolic on. The best way to do that is with the Make Waves Hot Foil Plate from Dare 2B Artzy. This is hands down one of my all-time favorite hot foil plates. I have found it to be very versatile in my card making.
I used the plate and did two regular foiling’s onto some white Glimmer Hot Foil paper using the Moon Dust Foil. I kept the negatives and refoiled them using a solid hot foil plate. I ended up with two solid foiled Make Waves pieces of cardstock. I trimmed down the foiled panels along the white outer edge, so the ending size is 3 ¾.

Using some fine point detail scissors, I carefully cut apart my waves into smaller waves by following the white lines in the pattern and cutting along them. I cut some smaller and narrower and some a bit wider. I ended with 9 small waves with a few leftovers.
I took my 1-inch strips that I cut from light blue cardstock and started layering the waves so that the blue cardstock would not be visible. I was also careful to keep my waves away from the scored ends that would be glued into my box. I used score tape to adhere the waves to the cardstock.

Next, I started to assemble the box. I adhered the wonky diagonal cut pieces to the back of my ink blended clouds panel using some score tape. I added the 2nd background panel cut from white cardstock to the back of the ink blended panel. This helps to cover up the scored edges from the sides as well as providing a place to write or stamp a sentiment.
I adhered one side of the 1-inch strips to one of the blue sides. Keeping them evenly spaced I added score tape to each scored edge and tucked it in place and rubbed it with my bone folder to get it adhered firmly. You could also use liquid glue, but I didn’t trust myself not to make a mess with my foil. The last strip will be adhered so that the front of the strip with the waves is flush with the front edge of the side wall. I had about ¼ to ½ of an inch between each of the 4 strips in my box.

Once the left side was all adhered, I folded them all to the left and added some score tape to the right scored edge of each strip and then folded in the right side to adhere them in place. I left the front panel last to make sure I got the right edge flush with the front.
Now I was ready to add in my colored critters and sun. I added my raccoon on the jet ski to the front on the left with some extra splashes around him. Since my bunny was all dressed and ready to parasail, I gave him some flight using a clear piece of heavy acetate that I adhered to the back of the bunny and then to the back of one of the waves. He looks like he’s having fun flying through the air. I added the bright sun onto my ink blended background. I had a seashell and a starfish from the Ocean Floor die set, I popped those onto the front of my card as well.

For my sentiment, I used Life is an Adventure to enjoy the ride. For the word Adventure, I did a two-tone stamping on the sentiment to give it teal and blue color using Dare 2B Artzy inks in Paradise Teal and Midnight Blue. I love the way it looks and it’s such an easy way to add interest to your sentiment.

The folded size of my finished card was 5 ¾ x 5 ¾ only because I have my sun hanging off the edge. You could put it into an A10 card envelope which is 9 ½ x 6 or you could create your own with an envelope score board which I will link below.
Thanks for stopping by. Hope you are inspired to create your own box card featuring the Water Adventure stamp and die set. There are lots of fun things you could do with this set, and it pairs well with many of the other Dare 2B Artzy stamp sets.
