Sweet Holiday Birds
Welcome back!
Today I have a new Holiday card featuring the new Holiday Birds Stamp and Die set from Dare 2B Artzy.
For my card, I chose a color palette from my Color Cubes. I used Card #297 which has some beautiful shades of teal blue and darker greens. I really love this color combo.
To start, I stamped the adorable bird images onto Neenah 110lb Solar White cardstock with Dare 2B Artzy Totally Black ink.
Using my selected color card, I tried to pick out some Copic marker colors that would match my palette. I selected G20, G82, G94 and G99 for my greens and BG70, BG72, BG75 and BG78 plus a small amount of BG15 was used for the blue-greens. I used neutral greys in N4, N5, N7 and N9 and a touch of red with R29, R37 and R89 for the scarf. I find that using a card from my Color Cubes really helps jumpstart my creativity as sometimes choosing colors for my cards is the most difficult part of the process.
Once my images were colored, I die cut them using the coordinating Holiday Birds dies. I love that these dies include the sentiments.
For the base of my card, I started by die cutting a piece of 110lb cardstock using the heart scallop die from the Slim Love Framelits die set I cut off 1 1/8 inch from the die cut piece from each end (approx. 3 scallops). This would make the die cut piece short enough to fit onto an A2 Card panel. I realized after I did this that I could have just used the coordinating strip of hearts die, but I really wanted the stitched edge that is cut with the standard die.
Because the Scalloped Heart die cuts out the center and just leaves the border, I used some Score-Tape and another strip of cardstock cut to 2 3/8 inch and positioned the stitched center cardstock and scalloped border onto the Score-tape to keep it in place together for my card panel.
Using the largest slimline stitched die from the Slim Love Framelits die set, I cut a piece of the Peace & Joy paper and then trimmed it down to fit on my A2 size card.
I added an additional layer of dark green cardstock cut to ½ inch wider than the Peace & Joy paper and a piece of gold glitter cardstock cut to ½ inch narrower.
Each layer of cardstock was added to a top fold A2 panel turned on its side.
My sweet little Holiday Birds were popped up with foam tape for a bit of dimension.
I stamped the Happy Holiday’s sentiment with the beautiful font onto white cardstock with Dare 2B Artzy’s Pomegranite ink. This ink is a wonderful true red color that matches the Peace & Joy paper perfectly. To give the sentiment some added dimension, I use the coordinating die and cut the outline two more times. I layered the sentiment just below the birds.
For a pop of shimmer, I used a gold Gelly Roll Stardust pen and added some shimmer to the scarf and the chest decoration on my birds. I added some small ombre glitter drops around the card for some added sparkle. I also added a single red clay heart between the two birds which helps balance out the red accents in my design.
That finished up my card for the day. All of the products used in today’s card are linked below for your convenience.
Have a wonderful, crafty day!
Hugs,
Tonya
