You are Groovy!
Hello Artzy friends!
Today, I have a colorful new card featuring the Good Times Roll stamp and coordinating die. I had a image in mind of tie-dyed shirts and black lights with bright colors so I wanted to see if I could achieve the same look on my card.
I wanted to try my hand at making a tie-dye water colored background for this card. To do that I used a piece of Canson watercolor paper and my Gansai Tambi watercolors. I cut my cardstock to be about 6 x 6 and then used some purple tape to keep the cardstock in place on the metal board. This keeps the cardstock from warping.
To start I added clean water to my watercolor cardstock and started adding in my primary colors of watercolor in a rainbow order. I started with the purple and blue first and added each section of color and then carefully used my watercolor brush tip to help it flow and merge into the next color. The Gansai Tambi colors are very vibrant, and I expected to have issues with the red color taking over my orange, so I wanted to do it last. Actually, the purple color was very saturated and was difficult to keep from overtaking the blue.
When I finished creating my tie-dyed background, I went back in a few areas and either added more water to get rid of the harsh line or I added a bit more color. Next, I set it aside to dry overnight.
I worked on stamping and coloring the roller skate, lava lamp and a couple of flowers using my Sketch Marker Brush alcohol markers.
Once all of my images were colored, I used the coordinating dies and die cut all of the images.
After the watercolor background was dried, I trimmed down the excess border leaving a 1/8-inch white border all the way around the background.
Using the Double Dot Circle Dies from Dare 2B Artzy, I cut out 3 circles in my water-colored background. I kept the negative watercolor pieces to use on another project. The largest circle was 2 3/8 inch and the smaller circles are both 1 inch.
Next, I used the next size up circles to cut some silver matte cardstock to create frames around the circles. I think that adds a finished look to the card base. I added the frames to my background with some liquid glue.
I added some dimensional foam to the back of my water-colored panel and popped it up onto some glossy black cardstock. For each of the stamped images, I used a double layer of dimensional foam and popped them up within the circles.
For my sentiment, I stamped the You Are and the Groovy using some Totally Black ink. For the You Are part of the sentiment, I used a flag strip die and die cut it out by placing the die closer on one end and then running it through my die cutting machine. To cut the other side, I slide the die down until the position looks even and the little dot’s “click into place” so that I know I’m not creating a shadow or double cut that doesn’t line up. I run this through my die cutting machine again to create a short little sentiment flag.
Once the Groovy was stamped a couple of times, I used a Sakura Stardust Jelly Roll pan to color over the stamped sentiment and create a nice shimmer. Once I was happy with the shimmer, I let the Stardust Pen dry a bit and then stamped it again with some Versamark ink and added some clear embossing powder. I repeated this to add a second layer of clear embossing to my sentiment.
I used the coordinating die to cut out the Groovy sentiment. I added them to the top left on my card and popped the Groovy up with 2 layers of dimensional foam.
On the inside of the card, I stamped the sentiment; Have a Hippie Birthday.
I added some white gel pen detail to my colored images and as a finishing touch as well as adding some Sakura Stardust to a few of the stamped images to give them a bit of sparkle.
Thank you so much for stopping by! I hope you’ve enjoyed my tie-dyed card today featuring the Good Times Roll stamp sent and sentiments from the Groovy Van stamp and die set. I will link all of the products used in today’s card below for your convenience.
Hugs,
Tonya
