Decking the Halls the Artzy Way

Hello crafty friends & welcome!

I am back on the Dare 2B Artzy blog today with a new Christmas card featuring another one of my favorite Dare 2B Artzy Christmas stamp sets.

Today, I am playing with the Deck the Halls stamp and die set. I love the retro ornaments in this set and they are so fun to play with and color.

I am loving all non-traditional colors for my Christmas cards this year. For my card today, I started by selecting the paper for my card first and built my card around that.

Using a horizontal A2 card base made from 110lb card stock, I cut a piece of the Grizzly Brrrz Paper using the pretty plaid pattern at an angle so that it would cover about half of the card.

I layered the plaid paper over a base of some white glitter card stock and added a strip of blue glitter card stock along the edge of the Grizzly Brrrz Paper.

I stamped each of the three retro ornaments in the Deck the Halls Stamp Set with Totally Black Ink.

For this card, I decided to challenge myself to use a random color pallet for inspiration to color my retro ornaments. To do this, I used The Color Cube and pulled out a photo with some color swatches that I liked that would compliment my plaid background and then I tried to match my Copic markers to the colors. I kind a love having these Color Cube cards handy when I am looking for color inspiration.

The Copic markers I used were Corals in R21, R22, Pinks in R81, R85, Blues in B41, B45 and B02, B04 and Reds in R24, R27, R35 and R46 and a C4 for some shading.

I colored the ornaments and die cut them with the coordinating die set.

Next, I cut the Mini Stars Border from some matte silver card stock and several pieces of scrap card stock. I glued two of the scrap card stock behind the matte sliver card stock to give the border a bit of depth and make it a bit more sturdy because it’s very delicate.

I added some dimensional foam to each of the ornaments and also added a piece of silver DM Embroidery floss which I folded over the top of the card base and taped in place on the back.

The Mini Stars Border was added to the top of the card background to give the appearance that each of the ornaments is hanging from the Mini Star Border.

I stamped the Deck the Halls sentiment with some Dare 2B Artzy Pomegranate Ink. Next, I stamped over the ink with embossing ink and sprinkled on some clear embossing powder and heat set it.

I cut out the sentiment with a stitched rectangle tag die.

I love the way the colors in this card turned out and coloring up the retro ornaments from the Deck the Halls stamp set always makes me so happy and definitely gets me into the Christmas spirit.

Thanks so much for stopping by today. I will have all of the products used in today’s card linked below for your convenience.

Hugs,

Tonya
