Dare 2B Artzy Fall Colors Challenge

Hello Dare 2B Artzy friends! We’ve dipped our toes into some cooler weather here in Colorado which is a welcome change. It’s appropriate for our new challenge that begins today, Fall Colors!

I’m excited to be part of this month’s challenge because Fall is my absolute favorite time of year. I don’t know what it is but fall brings about a sense of comfort and calm in me.  I just feel better in the cool, crisp air and all the gorgeous fall colors that are all around. Hubby and I took a drive up to the mountains today and the Aspen trees are starting to change, it’s just stunning and inspiring.

The card I put together has some gorgeous fall colors. Hopefully you’ll be inspired to create a fall project of your own and enter our challenge.

For my card, I used the Dare 2B Artzy leaf stamp from the Texture stamp set. This set has several awesome stamps featuring different textures. I loved the detailed leaf stamp – it almost looks like an x-ray of a leaf.

I started by testing out my stamp with various embossing powders and stamping and heat setting them on kraft cardstock. I loved that the embossing powder picked up all the fine details of the leaf stamp. I tried out several different colors of embossing powder and then I tried using a couple of different colors on each leaf. I loved the look as it was close to a leaf changing color. I used a gold and green combination on one leaf and a merlot and gold combination on the other.  Once I was done, I fussy cut out each leaf and set it aside.

For my background, I cut another piece of kraft cardstock that was a sort of gold color and taped a stencil I had with small leaves to the cardstock to hold it in place.

Next, I used 3 colors of Nuvo embellishment mousse; Fresh Copper, Indian Gold and a small amount of Royal Aubergine. I used my Clarity Stamp brushes and tapped them into my jar of mousse and then brushed it across the stencil with my cardstock. I started with the Indian Gold mousse first and then the Copper and finally just a touch of the Royal Aubergine. I continued to brush back and forth across my stencil and onto the cardstock until there was a good blend from one color to the next. When I was finished I made sure to wash my brushes and stencils right away to make sure the mousse didn’t dry on them.

I carefully removed the stencil from the cardstock so I wouldn’t smudge anything.

Finally I cut a piece of off-white cardstock using a scalloped rectangle die. I cut down my stenciled background and then cut the outer edges with the same rectangle die and adhered them together.

I placed the background into my MISTI stamp positioner and used the small maple leaf and the hello sentiment from the Dare 2B Artzy Tangle Leaves stamp set. I positioned and stamped them at the top of the die cut rectangle and heat embossed with some green embossing powder.

I took the two leaves that I’d heat embossed and fussy cut and placed them on the front of my card with some dimensional foam. Next, I cut a small maple leaf from the Dare 2B Artzy matching dies and inked the entire leaf with some Versamark and covered it with copper embossing powder and heat set it until it was fully melted across the leaf. This creates a cool looking metallic leaf effect. I added that to the front of my two Texture leafs to finish off the card.

My entire panel was added to a top folding A2 size card using some dimensional foam. I used a burgundy colored cardstock to match with my fall colors.
